Principal Systems Engineer Functional Description:
In this position you will provide overall technical leadership and project management as a systems engineer for the design, development and deployment of large, complex CAD/AVL data and voice communications systems. You will be required work with the Program Manager and Project Managers on managing and maintaining schedules are resources in support of your project. You need to be able to perform requirements analysis, develop and present system design, coordinate test and deployment activities, and support technical interaction with your customer. The ability to write requirements specifications, provide bid inputs to proposal activities, and participate in presentations is required as well.
You will mentor and lead other engineers and be responsible for technical oversight of the entire system. You will collaborate with other engineers and managers in the organization in order to be successful.
This position requires that deployment and acceptance of the system be at the customer site. This may involve extended travel to customer locations during the time period of installation, test and acceptance.
Education and Typical Years Experience:
BSEE, BSCE, BSCS or equivalent experience. 10 years of experience as a systems engineer in a lead capacity.
Special Requirements:
To qualify for this exciting opportunity, you must possess the following qualifications:
* Excellent problem solving and communications skills. * Demonstrated experience in developing quality, maintainable and well designed systems. * Experience in developing accurate and detailed level of effort estimates for budgetary and project planning purposes with the ability to create and maintain detailed schedules. * Proven track record of success with the ability and willingness to share information and cross-train peers. * Perform requirements analysis, create presentation material for formal design reviews, interact with customers to discern applicable requirements and operational use of the system, and provide development guidance and system test oversight for system delivery. * Lead internal staff to accomplish all technical program goals and assist Program Manager to help meet cost and schedule goals. * Knowledge of the entire system development life cycle and product development life cycle is required. * Candidate must be able to lead a team of developers to deliver an integrated CAD/AVL system to meet program requirements. * Successful candidates will have also have experience in hardware and / or software development, and relevant experience with communications contract management is a plus. * Familiarity with IEEE life cycle system documentation and process is a plus. * Experience in the ground transportation industry and related communications protocols (CAN, OBD-II, J1708, etc.) is a plus.
