About the Role:
The Senior Tax Manager will be based at Norsk Hydro North America’s Head Offices in Baltimore. He or she will work closely with Hydro’s Corporate Tax Department (CTD) in Oslo, have a strategic role in tax planning, policy and compliance in the US and work globally with different business areas as well as the Hydro group’s Head Office in Oslo, Norway.
Area of Responsibility:
Perform the governance role on behalf of CTD for all tax planning, policy and coordination in the US. This includes e.g. to define - in cooperation with CTD - Hydro's position on tax regulations, rulings, decisions, audit settlements, tax assessments or other actions related to US tax matters. In addition, involves working together with ‘Extrusion shared service center’ in Baltimore to guide and follow up on tax filings and assessments.
Manage US Transfer Pricing (in cooperation with CTD Oslo), including planning but also coordination of yearly filing of the US Transfer Pricing documentation
Provide group internal tax advice to Business Areas operating in the US both in terms of general tax support and managing specific tax issues
Manage and ensure effective use of the corporate tax advisory and compliance contract services in the US both internally and with external advisors
Responsible for US tax input into business development, merger, disposal or acquisition projects in the US
Ensure tax optimization in the US across legal units and Business Areas including tax issues related to the US capital & funding structure
Manage tax activities, processes, tax contingencies, and litigation in Hydro’s US subsidiaries
Work together with business areas and Corporate (e.g. Finance and Legal) to ensure compliance with US tax, legal and corporate requirements, (in particular for Hydro entities outside the US performing activities in the US)
Keep Hydro US’s Finance team updated on changes in US tax legislation
Qualifications:
Accountant or attorney with an advanced tax degree or tax specialization
Experience in an international audit firm, a large law firm or in the tax department of a multinational corporation
Minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience, mainly from direct taxes, and tax planning issues, including international tax, and experience with mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures.
Demonstrated analytical skills
Ability to work in a structured and accurate manner and with high quality aspirations
Self-motivated and independent; willing to be a “hands on” manager
Good communication and relationship skills
