GENERAL SUMMARY

Compiles and maintains records of hospital patients treated for cancer to provide data for physicians and research studies, utilizing cancer registry data systems. Reviews hospital records to identify and compile patient data for use in the cancer management program and to comply with government regulations. Reviews patient's medical record, abstracts, and codes information, such as demographic characteristics, history, stage and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures and treatment, and enters data into computer. Contacts patients, families, and/or physicians on an annual basis to maintain patient follow-up, such as quality of life and length of survival, within the cancer registry. Prepares statistical reports, narrative reports, and graphic presentations of cancer registry data for use by hospital staff, researchers, and other users of cancer data. May supervise subordinate cancer registry staff and/or students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
2. Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) or CTR-exam eligible.
3. Two or more years experience in a Children's Oncology Group (COG) or Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons accredited cancer program.
4. Experience in publishing abstracts, posters, and/or manuscripts in cancer epidemiology, research, and surveillance (cancer registry level).
5. Personal computer skills including word processing, graphics, spreadsheet programs, and cancer registry software programs.
6. Excellent communications skills and interpersonal skills.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

ยท Must be able to see, hear, speak, read, and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation and care for oneself, with little or no difficulty.
* Constantly must be able to read, interpret, and analyze data (both computerized and hard copy) from health records.
* Constantly must be able to hear communication from physicians, researchers, patients, families, and co-workers to perform all job functions.
* Constantly must have finger dexterity to enter and retrieve data via computer keyboard.
* Frequently talks to patients, families, physicians, researchers, administrators, or co-workers regarding patient records or data.
