Well established company in Columbia, MD is looking for Lead Database Administrator. The Lead Database Administrator (DBA) guides a team of database developers and administrators responsible for maintaining the availability and performance of Microsoft SQL Server database servers. This position incorporates all aspects of database administration and development. Specific responsibilities include insuring prompt response and attention, be self or another team member, to urgent incoming requests and performance notifications, assist and mentors Database administrators by providing guidance, technical insight, recommendations and technical requirements, assist application developers with the creation and maintenance of robust, scalable database code, and evaluate new and existing code for performance and scalability and maintain and enforce SQL standards and guidelines, and answer technical and procedural questions from team members.

A comprehensive understanding of database structures, database administration, and query optimization
At least four years’ experience administrating Microsoft SQL Server, with at least two of those years spent with SQL Server 2008
Recently been a successful SQL Server 2008 DBA maintaining OLTP databases with hundreds of tables, hundreds of transactions per second, and/or thousands of simultaneous users
Excellent SQL skills, with the ability to generate complex SQL queries from an entity-relationship diagram.
Excellent query tuning skills
Excellent schema design skills with the ability to design and refactor database schemas for maximum storage and querying efficiency
The ability to troubleshoot critical performance problems in a production database system during a crisis
