Our Health and Life Sciences Division, Centers for Public Health Research and Evaluation (CPHRE), is currently seeking 2 Community Liaisons to join a nation-wide team of applied researchers to focus on federally funded research related to evaluating the effect of community level programs and policies on community childhood obesity rates. The Community Liaisons will conduct research on site in communities across the United States including interviews with community program directors, affiliates, and other key informants; review of program-related documents; the completion of community level observations and surveys (e.g., in schools, parks); and training and observation of subcontract field interview staff who will collect data from household participants.
These positions report to Battelle's Baltimore Office (Falls Road location outside of the city), however, it will require ongoing travel for multiple days at a time. Community Liaisons will be responsible for data collection efforts, over a 3-5 year period, in approximately 45 communities and will be required to travel to assigned communities for approximately one week at a time.
Key responsibilities of the position include:
· Contact, schedule, conduct in-person interviews with identified key informants in assigned communities and track participants in study information management system (IMS)
· Collect data from various sources (interviews, observations, document review) and enter/update information in study IMS
· Conduct training with home interview staff on elements of home interview protocol including collection of anthropometric data
· Conduct quality control checks of home interview staff by observing home visits with household participants and documenting results in IMS
Required skills and experience:
· Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as public health; community relations/program evaluation; education; or social, behavioral, biological, or environmental science
· 1-2 years experience with survey data collection, including the conduct of face-to-face interviews
· Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
· Knowledge of survey instrument design
· Familiarity with conducting interviews and other data collection via paper-pencil and computer-aided instruments
· Experience with Microsoft office products and a variety of other software products
· Ability to arrange personal travel, and maintain travel and on-site schedules electronically
· Organized and detail-oriented
· Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills necessary
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred (but not required)
