Coding Supervisor / HIS
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a Coding Supervisor to lead and supervise our coding team. The successful candidate will be a RHIA/RHIT, CCS preferred, with three years supervisory experience and five or more years of ICD-9-CM and CPT/HCPCS direct coding experience. The Coding Supervisor will be charged with the development of our ICD-10-CM readiness plan and staff development.

The Coding Supervisor oversees and participates in the day-to-day functions of the Coding Team in the Health Information Management Department.

Essential Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for the coding and data abstraction for all patient types.
  • Ensuring compliance with national and state standards and regulations related to the coding and abstracting of patient records.
  • Responsible for adherence with compliance program ensuring quality audits are performed at least quarterly.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions, and DRG and APC assignments.
  • Responsible for submission of coded data to OSHD.
  • Supervision of staff including, Inpatient, outpatient and IRF coders, Trauma/Cancer Registrar, Clinical Documentation Specialist and ED-Charge Documentation Specialist
  • Developing and adhering to staffing and performance standards
  • Evaluates educational needs of staff, identifies opportunities in skill sets and develops education calendar to support continuing education needs.
  • Supports activities of the revenue cycle to promote a clean claim the first pass and monitors of the DNFB.
  • Serves on the Resource Management committee as a subject matter expert and supports activities of the performance improvement department.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
RHIA/RHIT active status required with CCS preferred
  • Minimum three years supervisory experience with acute care hospital setting preferred.
  • CDIP experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of coding and documentation compliance related to CMS, OIG/MAC/FI, OHCA, OSHD, and other regulatory agencies is required.
  • Ability to manage priorities and multi-task as necessary to ensure deficiencies are identified and appropriately addressed in a timely and collaborative manner.
  • Must demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of section specific test information and instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Experience in departmental budgeting, staffing and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of Quadramed Quantim encoder & compliance application is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Meditech abstracting and reporting application is highly preferred.
