Cardiovascular Educator, Pediatric Echocardiography Requisition Number: 37855 Department: Pediatrics Schedule: Full Time Shift: Day Hours: 8:30-5 Work Location: JHOC7 / NCB Job Details: The Cardiovascular Educator in Pediatric Echocardiography (CEPE) is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for Pediatric Echocardiography Staff and Pediatric Cardiology Fellows, within the specific functional unit of the Non-Invasive Imaging Center for Congenital and Acquired Pediatric Heart Disease and for the sonographers affiliated with the Imaging Center through its outreach and external imaging programs. This portion of the job requirement constitutes 15% of the CEPE's role within the Imaging Center. In the organization and administration of staff development efforts, the CEPE shall apply patient care, basic and clinical concepts relevant to Echocardiography and ultrasound, adult learning, and other theories as appropriate and will develop multi-media educational materials to apply these concepts. The CEPE will be encouraged to receive additional training in educational theory and applications in adult learning. The CEPE functions as an educational advisor to the Pediatric Echocardiography staff personnel and as a facilitator for their continued development and also helps build skills of sonographers at outside programs that use the Imaging Center for expert interpretation of echocardiograms. The CEPE will direct the training of echocardiography students rotating through the Imaging Center and will organize the "hands-on" skill building of the Pediatric Cardiology Fellows rotating through the Imaging Center. The remaining 85% of the CEPE's role is as a Sonographer in the procedural area of the Imaging Center and at Johns Hopkins affiliated pediatric cardiology clinics. The Cardiovascular Educator reports to the Lead Technologist in the Non-Invasive Lab and to the Director of the Lab. Competencies: A. Education: - Graduate of an approved diagnostic imaging program (e.g. Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Health Programs). Bachelor's degree preferred. - Understanding of principals of adult learning (preferred) - Facility in the development of multi-media educational materials (preferred) B. Knowledge: - Demonstrates clinical knowledge and teaching experience in area of expertise. - Ability to incorporate advanced clinical and theoretical concepts into education. - General computer knowledge and capability to use computers. - Comprehensive understanding of echocardiographic procedures and equipment. C. Skills: - Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument. - Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team to enhance collaboration and problem-solving. - Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in order to provide information to patients and healthcare personnel. - Ability to create and display multi-media instructional materials - Ability to configure and support telemedicine software and hardware used for teaching and clinical care - Ability to teach effectively using teleconference software/hardware - Ability to incorporate skills for adult learning into the teaching of echocardiography D. Required Licensure Certification - Must be credentialed in pediatric and adult echocardiography (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography). E. Work Experience: - Minimum of five years Cardiovascular staff experience in specialty area. F. Machines, Tools: - Complete knowledge of diagnostic imaging equipment, computers and post-processing software, accessory equipment and other pertinent equipment in the department. MS office (Word, Power Point, Excel), general and specialized patient care equipment.
