ASSISTANT COOK Requisition Number: 37268 Department: Nutrition Schedule: Part Time Shift: Rotating Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm Work Location: Production/Cold Food Job Details: POSITION SUMMARY: Under supervision, assists cook in preparing, seasoning, and cooking food for Hospital patients, employees, and visitors; and/or participates in the preparation of baked goods, such as breads, rolls, cakes and other dessert and nourishment items. Also responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing and preparation of meat, fish and poultry items. Education: Work requires a level of math and English normally acquired through the completion of an eighth grade education. Knowledge: Work requires a basic knowledge of food products and terminology, as well as the ability to read and follow recipes/instructions. Skills: Work requires the ability to read , follow instructions, and prepare food in accordance with the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)food safety program. Requires the ability to operate standard machinery, food slicers, read menus, work schedules and prices. Ability to perform simple math calculations is necessary to count and monitor inventory. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with hospital patients, visitors and staff to provide courteous services. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.: None. Serve Safe sanitation desirable. Work Experience: Work requires prior experience as a food service worker of six to twelve months. Machines, Tools, Equipment: Work requires the safe use of knives, slicers, choppers, Berkel slicers, bandsaws, mixers, ovens, measuring cups/spoons and thermometers
